Is Valentine’s Day Christian?

There are problems with various holidays that have been passed down through time that have supposedly Christian origins.  Valentine’s Day is no exception to this.  It actually pre-dates Christianity, as this History Channel special shows.

At any rate, I’ve often scratched my head at holidays like “Saint” Valentine’s Day and “Saint” Patrick’s Day.  After all, didn’t the Protestant Reformation do away with praying to saints and such?  It really does prove what I’ve said for some time now: The problem with the Protestant Reformation is that they didn’t go far enough.  Instead of breaking away from Rome, the Protestant organizations simply have become the Catholic Church’s daughters.

If someone really wants to honor God, they should open their Bibles and read what He requires.  After all, He is God.  It is His right to state how He should be worshiped.  Funny how human beings talk all the time about their “rights”, how they want to be treated and such but completely ignore how God expects to be treated!

29 “When the LORD your God annihilates the nations before you, which you are entering to take possession of, and you drive them out and live in their land, 30 be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, ‘How did these nations worship their gods? I’ll also do the same.’ 31 You must not do the same to the LORD your God, because they practice every detestable thing, which the LORD hates, for their gods. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods. 32 You must be careful to do everything I command you; do not add anything to it or take anything away from it.

~ Dt 12:29-32 (HCSB)

God does not want us adding to or taking away from the way He proscribes worship, no matter how nice sounding the reasoning behind it is!  Simply put, Valentine’s Day does not please God!
