In spite of mounting evidence that social engineering by trying to redefine marriage and family is harmful to society, there are proponents who would turn a blind eye to the available data. Such as it is, it is likely that this latest study reported by The Telegraph in “Boys raised by traditional families ‘do better at school‘” will likely be ignored as well.
What is particularly sad, IMO, is that lives need not have been hurt in trying to determine good from evil, even as Adam and Eve brought a curse upon humanity by doing what was right in their own eyes rather than listen to the Creator, the One who designed, fashioned and molded them out of the ground, which gives Him a unique position to know what is best for us.
The results did not take long to be shown, either. Cain killed his brother Abel and then tried to cover it up. Cain was driven away from the rest of humanity to father the sons and daughters of men. Seth was born, and he was a righteous man who became the progenitor of the sons of God. However, good and evil cannot coexist forever, and soon there was intermarriage between the two groups and we see the corruption that set in upon all of humanity in Genesis 6.
Abraham was expected to teach his descendants.
17And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
18Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
~ Ge 18:17-19
After coming out of Egypt, the Children of Israel were commanded to do the same.
4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
~ Dt 6:4-7
Family is God’s design, and we disregard His instructions to our own hurt.
In spite of his apparently anti-religious viewpoint, philosopher Will Durant was quoted as saying, “A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself within.” It almost always starts with sexual morals and the breakdown of the family.
This might sound a little off topic, but…
One of my best friends is a professor emeritus of criminology. He said that the main source of crime is “people doing weird things to kids.” Most of the U.S. prison population has a history of child abuse, molestation, or neglect. Of course, there’s a problem with drug abuse and peer influence, but that usually goes back to parental neglect. “If don’t pay attention to your kids, then somebody else will.”
His point main point was the problem of children growing up in a highly unstable or dysfunctional families, especially when it involves absentee or abusive fathers.
Now, back to your post…
If we have a nation bent on destroying the family structure and ‘every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes,’ then where does that leave the children? And what does that portend for the future?
Study after study shows that children raised by an intact family on the whole do better than those that are not. It doesn’t matter whether it is education, earnings, the crime rate, whatever.
No amount of government engineering or pandering is going to change the facts.
